Fabiola Boulanger - Ms. Canada 2011

Female bodybuilder Fabiola Boulanger won the Ms. Canada title this weekend and earned her IFBB Pro Card, weighing in at a shredded 149 lbs, and "lean to death". She was confident going into the 2011 CBFF National Championships (Canadian Nationals) and told me back in July, "The physique I'll bring to the stage on October 9th will surprise you."

Fabiola calls herself "the next generation female bodybuilder" which combines beauty, muscle and grace. From what we've seen, it appears to be a winning combination and hopefully the beginning of a long and fabulous career. Congrats to Fabie and all the other great competitors.

I got started lifting after a college soccer injury kept me off of the field. With a recurring hamstring pull, I couldn’t sprint at 100%, but kept with the strength training program. I decided to look into serious weight training instead of "sport specific" training. My strength grew in leaps and bounds right off the bat and I saw awesome changes in my already athletic body. I joined a local gym and started reading muscle magazines and trying out different exercises.

In 2001 my husband and I started talking about having a family, so I decided to do a show just in case I never got my body back! The thought of having babies actually pushed me to be a competitive bodybuilder. I went into the show with no expectations and enjoyed the journey.

Early in 2004 we settled into starting our family. I was on bed rest and gained over 65 lbs with my pregnancy. After an emergency c-section and some difficulties after coming home, I never thought that I would get back in shape or find the time to do so. It really took a good year to realize that I needed to find myself again and become a healthier person. Becoming a mom was great, but as most moms know, it pulls your life in 100 different directions, and finding time and ways to get pieces of yourself back is difficult. I decided to get back into competitive bodybuilding as motivation to lose the baby weight. I have done a show every year to keep that motivation up, and at the same time I have modeled for my daughter a healthy lifestyle.

Muscle Worship

Muscle worship is a form of body worship in which a participant, the worshiper, touches the muscles of another participant, the dominator, in sexually arousing ways, which can include rubbing, massaging, kissing and licking. The dominator is typically a bodybuilder or fitness competitor. Both male and female bodybuilders often offer muscle worship sessions for a price in order to supplement their low or nonexistent income from bodybuilding competitions. Although these sessions rarely involve sexual activities, they offer both male and female fans the rare chance to meet and touch a muscular man or woman in person. (Source: Wikipedia)



A television documentary called "Muscle Worship: Hidden Lives" digs deep into Muscle Worship and follows professional bodybuilders Gayle Moher and Lauren Powers. Only the top three Ms. Olympia winners earn big money and Gayle placed ninth. The next day, she is back to her day job to earn a living with a muscle worship session. This client will spend a week's wages for his time with Gayle. Each session is different, but she will generally pose as well as allow them to touch, kiss or massage her muscles. Gayle's business partner Lauren Powers shows up as they record videos for sale and prepare a Muscle Worship trip to Europe.



Highway Amazon, a 2001 film documentary chronicles bodybuilder Christine Fetzer's travels across the country, wrestling men in motel rooms for $300 an hour. Some pay up to $1,000 for the whole day "when they want to hang out and show me off, like a little muscle showpiece" she says. Between sessions, Christine spends her time applying makeup, icing down sore muscles, and talking to her boyfriend back home in Texas.

This bodybuilding sub-culture seems to stem from the bodybuilder's need to supplement her income from a grossly underpaid profession and a fan's obsession to meet and interact with a muscle woman. Gayle Moher's mom puts it eloquently, “If men are stupid enough to pay good money to touch Gayle’s muscles, then good luck to her.”

an Area Orion history

On the third anniversary of Area Orion, here's a little backstory on how it came to be.

I've always been a fan of women with extreme curves like female bodybuilders and well-endowed movie stars & models. Muscles or boobs, I liked things big.

I discovered female muscle morphs on sites like Diana The Valkyrie and attempted my first one around 1995. It was a crude enhancement of Ursula Teply on par with some I had seen online. There was a certain thrill while making it, like I was a mad scientist generating massive growth and giving these women ultimate power. After it was done I simply deleted it.

Over the next decade I would regularly check out my favorite female bodybuilding and fan sites. WPW.net first then The Valkyrie and others looking for the latest FBB images, artwork and stories. If one stood out I would morph it and maybe try a new technique, but the end result was always the same. It was deleted.

A few things changed in 2008. That Summer I bought a 17" MacBook Pro for home, instead of my usual PC desktop. A platform I was much more comfortable creating in. The laptop has always been the core of everything Area Orion, and still is.

I discovered DeviantArt (DA) in late September 2008 (thanks to DCMatthews) and a new world opened up. I never liked pay sites and here was an online community where hundreds of artists shared their female muscle artwork for free. All the pieces seemed to click and thought maybe it was time to start contributing.

I wasn't the first person to create a muscle morph but with years of practice I was making them extremely real looking. One problem always remained with mine or anyone else's - pixel distortion. Enlarging digital muscles & breasts larger makes them look fuzzy and the tell-tale sign of a fake. It didn't bother me before, but if I was going to show my work I wanted to solve this problem. The solution was simple. Instead of making muscles & boobs bigger, make everything else smaller (see my tutorial). I tested this simple technique and was amazed at the result. I was ready to enter the online community.

What would I call myself? Ben's Morphs sounded lame and most of my favorite morphers used kitschy descriptions like Kash's Colossal Competitors or Maverick's Musclebound Maidens. I wanted something different. What if there was a place where these marvelous women were transformed, like Area 51, the Twilight Zone and Frankenstein's lab all rolled into one? It seemed to add an air of mystery and I could take it in different directions like X-Files, where you really never knew what was going on.

By the time I was done, I had a name and much more. The premise for a real-time online science fiction/female muscle soap opera called Area Orion.
