Lianne McTavish, a University of Alberta professor of art, design and visual culture took her academic research to physical extremes. Having long studied how women’s bodies have been perceived throughout history and across cultures, she started intense training at 43 to compete in Women’s Figure and documented her physical transformation through her blog Feminist Figure Girl.
McTavish is writing a book about her experiences on the inside of female bodybuilding and intends to become a personal trainer to help people who can’t afford a gym get fit.
