11 women who plan to compete in the first ever IFBB Pro Physique Show
11 women are on the official list for the 2012 IFBB Desert Muscle Classic Pro Physique. The show will take place on February 25th in Mesa, AZ. If more enter, they will have to pay the IFBB Pro League a $200 late fee. New powerlifting world-record holder is a 13-year-old girl from Colorado
Like many female powerlifters, Abbey Watson doesn't typically get a lot of press attention. Holding eight different world records for her relatively slight weight class -- 105.75 pounds -- as well as 23 U.S. and Colorado state records, Watson is the kind of peak performer who has forced the general public to take notice. To achieve that success, Watson spends at least three very early mornings each week in the gym, doing deadlifts and squats while surrounded by very large men.

Another Pro Couple Breaks Up
IFBB pros Steve Kuclo & Amy Peters broke up. One of their wedding photos was on our banner in the Summer of 2009. The ending of their relationship was made public on Facebook (Steve has nearly 5000 friends). Some may consider this gossip, but Steve & Amy were the most well known pro couple that I am aware of since Jessica & Peter Putnam broke up. Sad to see a marriage end, but this could be the beginning for something better for the both of them. I wish them well.

Jodie Marsh urges kids to fight back bullies
In a new documentary that she's starring in, the glamour girl-turned-bodybuilder is showing kids they don't need to live in fear and tells victims how to fight back. But as well as helping others who have suffered, filming the show made Marsh come to terms with her own painful demons. The 33-year-old says she has always been bullied, from her schooldays to her first shot at fame in the reality show Essex Wives, to her brief stint in Celebrity Big Brother.

Is CrossFit Killing Female Bodybuilding?

Female bodybuilding's downward spiral has been evident to us fans for years. Lack of support within the industry, no media coverage, mass exodus to lesser divisions like Physique and disrespect from the world at large. Add miniscule winnings and lack of corporate sponsorships that are lucrative to competitors in Fitness, Figure & Bikini. Seriously, why bother?

Enter CrossFit, which is gaining serious steam and could take the bodybuilding/fitness world by storm. It's a sport for competitive muscular women with a wide appeal and quantifiable results and goals, something bodybuilding doesn't have (1). I can't remember the last time I've seen a bodybuilding competition on TV, yet the CrossFit Games: The Fittest On Earth is broadcast on ESPN2 and backed by major sponsor Reebok.

Female bodybuilders and Fitness models are beginning to take notice. Across the Twitterverse more and more are including CrossFit into their training or making the switch completely. Natural female bodybuilder Toni West announced that she is training to compete at the CrossFit Games Open in February. Women compete in bodybuilding because of their drive, passion and little else. Who wouldn't want to be involved in something exciting and new that celebrates strong women.

Could this kill female bodybuilding completely? As more move to CrossFit, bodybuilding will surely take a hit. But how could it get much worse? Maybe bodybuilding promoters will take notice and step up their game. It's doubtful.

Like Powerlifting, CrossFit is a tangent sport that could possibly help bodybuilding in the long run. Increased exposure with mainstream CrossFit might bring more fans. Who's to say that CrossFitters wouldn't compete on the BB stage either?

I'm a proponent of any endeavor that supports strong women and hope CrossFit breathes new life into bodybuilding. If not, at least I'll have something interesting to watch on ESPN2. Support Female Bodybuilding

Retired female mixed martial arts fighter Gina Carano may be a household name to those in the sporting world, but the 29-year old beauty is now broadening her horizons to include acting. Carano, a pioneer in the world of female competitive fighting, makes her big screen debut in Steven Soderbergh's action thriller "Haywire," in U.S. theaters on Friday. She plays a framed government agent who must prove her innocence and find out who betrayed her, all the while warding off assassins.

Big Sexy Kris Murrell IFBB Pro debuts physique in 2012
IFBB Pro Kris Murrell, also known as Big Sexy, made an official announcement on Twitter that her pro debut will be as a physique athlete. Women’s physique (WPD) launched in 2011 and ignited in the fitness community. The popularity of WPD grew quickly, and offered female bodybuilders (FBB) and figure athletes an opportunity to crossover to a division more suitable for them.

Former Fitness Star Kelly Ryan Denied Parole
Kelly and her then husband (Kelly has since filed for and divorced) Craig Titus were sentenced to prison on August 22, 2008 for the slaying of Melissa James. James’ charred body was found in December 2005 in the trunk of Ryan’s burned-out Jaguar sedan in the desert outside Las Vegas. Craig plead guilty to second-degree murder, kidnapping and arson. He was sentenced to 21 to 55 years.

California: 'Cyborg' Santos tests positive for steroid
Strikeforce star Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos will lose her 145-pound women's title after testing positive for a steroid, her employer said Friday. Drug tests related to a Dec. 17 championship bout with Hiroko Yamanaka revealed the presence of stanozolol metabolites in the urine sample provided by Santos, the California State Athletic Commission announced Friday. The test result means a $2,500 fine and a suspension of Santos' license to fight in California.

Female Bodybuilder Brigita Brezovac

I started with karate as a skinny but strong girl. I wanted to achieve more power, explosiveness and strength which I needed in fighting sport so I've decided to join the gym. There I saw the photo of Anja Langer who really impressed me so I started exercising with weights when I was 14 years old.

I've been training karate for eight years; I have a black belt and was a national champion for a few years. I quit the competitions because of my studies and injuries, but I didn’t quit the gym. There I met my boyfriend who suggested me to try competitions. After only three months of preparations I've competed in World championship in Miss Bodybuilding category in 2001 and came in fourth.

The next year I decided to try in Miss Fitness category. I competed in Slovenian Open and I won! In 2003 I was resting on my fitness laurels and wasn't in my best shape so I came third. That was pretty disappointing for me so I’ve decided to train harder for next year.

In 2004 I was preparing very hard for the World Championship! My shape was very good, and spent many hours practicing gymnastics and learning choreography. The prejudging judges disqualified me from fitness class because I was too muscular and put me into bodybuilding category. I won and after that I was told that I should compete in bodybuilding because my physique is more appropriate for bb.

In 2009 I finally competed in the IFBB and placed second in the bodybuilding heavy weight class. I got my IFBB PRO card in December 2009. In 2010 I had my PRO debut and won the show. One week later I won another PRO show. My dream came true. I qualified for Ms. Olympia in September on my birthday.

My role model is Lenda Murray because she was the best representative of female bodybuilding; she joined beautiful body, nice face and great personality with some glowing charm...and she is still a beauty.

I don't mean the World.

Back when I started Area Orion, the original plan of sharing "Lab Samples" (morphs) had a finite run. I didn't imagine it would consist of close to 400 female muscle growth and breast expansion morphs in a little over 3 years. I divided them into lab groups for easy classification, starting with designation "A" and moving through the Alphabet until I finished at "Z".

Lab Group "Z" is coming to an end, so what's next?

I love pushing the boundaries of the extreme, but have I experimented enough to call it quits? Are these just funny little fetish muscle & boob pictures or something you look forward to?

I am very personable, and outgoing, and I have a little sense of humor LOL. I'm very caring and nurturing. My first contest was very exciting, being in gymnastics all of my life, I love competing on stage and in front of an audience. I knew when I won my first show, that I would like to continue with bodybuilding. I have the video from my first show, how funny to see me back then at a 114lbs my first contest weight!

My competitive goals is to continue competing and be on the Olympia Stage again and to do the Arnold Classic again in 2011. My motivation for bodybuilding is when I became Anorexic in high school. Bodybuilding had saved my life. I admired Rachel Mclish, and Cory Eversons body. I thought to myself, they look so feminine even with muscles. I had the muscular genetics anyways being in gymnastics, so I just followed through with it. My biggest obstacle to success is to have more exposure for myself and for women's bodybuilding. Another obstacle is having a strong mind, I believe if you think positive and put your mind to anything, you can succeed at anything.

Heather is back on track with her life after a series of injuries and personal problems. Although she is currently retired and has stated that she has no plans to ever compete again as a bodybuilder, we will see if a change to the new Women’s Physique Division may be in the cards for her.

I was born on 14 April, 1980, in Stockholm, Sweden. Since childhood I have always been fascinated by sculptured, muscular athletic bodies. So at an age of 13 I attended a seminar with a fitness competitor, after which it didn't take long until I became a gym rat. I soon realized the importance of good nutrition for maximum results, and read everything I could get my hands on about healthy eating and training. Being amazed at how well my body responded to the weight lifting and nutritional improvements I implemented in my routine, my desire to build muscle and compete grew stronger and stronger. With my background in dancing I felt confident enough to go up on the fitness stage.

I competed in three national Swedish fitness shows at age 19, right after having finished upper secondary school. With an insatiable thirst for knowledge, that same year (1999) I started to study nutrition at the University of Stockholm. I finished my Bachelor's degree in nutrition in year 2003 and Master's degree with a major in nutrition a year later. While being a student I started to write for the Swedish fitness and bodybuilding magazine BODY, and a year after I finished my Master's degree I published my first book (in Swedish) called Functional Foods for Health and Energy Balance.

My great interest in scientific research about nutrition, exercise training and supplementation, brought me to the United States. In January 2005, I started to study at the PhD-program "Exercise, Nutrition and Preventive Health" at Baylor University in Texas. The crammed academic schedule forced me to let go of a major part of my workouts, which I was not happy with. So after successfully having completed one semester I moved on to Florida to resume my intense weight training which I missed so badly, and pursue my bodybuilding goals, while getting more and more involved with web design and web development.

Cutting Up: A Short Doc on Female Bodybuilding

A new documentary on Female Bodybuilding is being produced by Occidental College Senior Veronica Pinkham as a thesis project. Cutting Up explores the decreasing presence of women bodybuilders at muscle competitions and allows several competitors to reflect on the status of the sport. It examines the feminization of muscular women to further celebrate the choices and commitments of female bodybuilders dedicated to the intense lifestyle.

It is currently in production and will be (hopefully) completed in April 2012. You can help fund the project here.

I grew up in a tiny village in East Germany. My exceptionally good genetic potential was obvious and since middle school I trained four times a week. I specialized in javelin and discus throw, then basketball during high school. A cruciate ligament on my knee broke and ended my basketball career.

In 1995, I studied sports science at University of Leipzig and began regular weight training. After completing, I moved to Switzerland and managed the national team of Switzerland in professional cycling. Later, I began working as a Fitness instructor, then got the chance to set up a fitness center using my care philosophy. I devoted myself entirely to the fitness industry.

I coordinated job, family and training for 3 years at full throttle and was so burned out that a change was needed. I found a job as a PE teacher and turned my focus on training other people.

In 2001, my daughter Xenia arrived and had no time for cycling which left only strength training. I am always looking for a challenge in a contest and found it in bodybuilding. The dream came true for me with the receipt of the Pro card.

Muscle Domination & Goddess Heather

Heather began weight training in 1978 to stay active and prevent weight gain after graduation. She met Janet Strong at her gym, who was into heavy lifting and suggested it to Heather. She says "Hey, if weight training can make me look that hot too, I'll certainly give it a try".

Her first contest was the Tournament of Champions in 1989 and won the Overall title. She went on to achieve international acclaim as a champion bodybuilder and competed until 1997. Heather has been featured in most fitness and muscle magazines as well as “The Women: Photographs Of The Top Female Bodybuilders" and "Modern Amazons" by famed physique photographer Bill Dobbins.

So how does someone go from champion bodybuilder to muscle dominatrix? Some bodybuilders go into Muscle Worship and Lift & Carry to earn a living after the competitive stage, but Heather took sexual muscle fantasy to the next level. She's never been one to go the normal route. Heather comments "Not many people I know can say they live their dreams. My life rocks!"

Avvah asked if I could "do her" lol, which took me a minute to realize what she meant. We went into the breast expansion labs and came out about 150% bigger. Impressive considering how big she was to begin with. I also manipulated color and contrast to give a vintage pin-up feel.

I've been seeing more and more "CrossFitters" around. Hot muscle women lifting and working out which is NOT related to competitive bodybuilding or fitness? I had to know more.

Here's a brief overview. CrossFit is a strength and conditioning brand that combines weightlifting, sprinting, gymnastics, powerlifting, kettlebell training, plyometrics, rowing, and medicine ball training. It contends that a healthy, fit person requires proficiency in each of ten general physical skills: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination, and accuracy. Athletes run, row, jump rope, climb rope, move large loads quickly over short distances, and use powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting techniques. CrossFit was founded by former high-school gymnast Greg Glassman and his partner Lauren Glassman. The first affiliated gym opened in Santa Cruz in 1995 and has grown to nearly 2,000 gyms worldwide and used by many fire departments, law enforcement agencies and military organizations. Wikipedia

As with any sport, you need an event to measure success. Enter the CrossFit Games. The annual event started in 2007 with both male and female competitors winning $25,000 in 2010. The games were opened Worldwide in 2011 by turning the sectional event into an online format. Athletes have six different workouts to complete and are able to submit their scores by either completing the workout at a registered affiliate or by sending in a video of themselves.

There are thirteen regional divisions in North and South America and four in the rest of the world. The top athletes from sectional events move on to regionals and those top athletes are eligible to compete in the CrossFit Games. Different divisions include men, women, masters men, masters women and teams.

My heart remains with female bodybuilding, but you can bet we'll be keeping an eye on the Crossfitters.

The Transformation of Dawn Whitham

Many female bodybuilder transformations are fascinating and inspiring... then there's Dawn Whitham. "Bigger, Better, Faster...MORE is Better!" is her favorite saying and would set her on a bizarre transformation path for over 20 years and give her the rare distinction of "living morph".

Dawn began training in 1987 and created a muscular physique on par with many pros. Breast implants are common with female bodybuilders and Dawn would push her MORE is Better mantra to the max. She chronicles her growing breast expansion starting in 1993 with 320cc's and topped out at nearly 10 times that. Add her growing tattoo collection, various other implants and piercings and you get the most unique looking muscle woman ever.

Michele Ralabate Today

Michele Ralabate was one of the most impressive and beautiful women in bodybuilding and fitness in the 1990's. She was one of my favorites from that era and was excited when I found out she's still around. While no longer in the competitive field, she currently works as a Pilates Coach and Medical secretary/assistant in the Buffalo/Niagara area.

About Michele: I have been a world-class athlete and fitness trainer for more than twenty years. My early athletic endeavors were in gymnastics, with a scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania. I graduated with a B.S. in Physical Education / Sports Management. As an elite level gymnast, I was invited to the 1984 Olympic Trials. Unfortunately injury prevented me from finishing the competition but that would not deter me from pursuing other physical feats. I then went on to earn professional status in both bodybuilding and Fitness. As a result of of my bodybuilding success, I have been featured on ESPN. My articles on training and nutrition have been published in several magazines. Featured in well over thirty magazines both nationally and internationally. I have graced the cover of several muscle & fitness magazines.

I am one of only three women to compete in both the IFBB Ms. Olympia bodybuilding and the IFBB Fitness Olympia. I have won the lightweight and overall title at the 1994 Nationals and then went on to win my first pro show at the 1995 Jan Tana Classic. I have also won the Women’s Strength Extravaganza two years in a row.

I have always won the best poser award taking advantage of my vast athletic abilities as a gymnast and dancer. I was in the Guinness Book of Word Records 2000, the same year as my sister Maria.

Female Muscle Growth Stories

The Female Muscle Growth Story is the literary form of FMG. While muscle art and morphs graphically show the final result, FMG stories take you through the detailed process of how and why a woman transforms into a muscle bound amazon. These stories started in the 1980's and were made available to the public by small publishers like LH Art. They began appearing in the 1990's on Usenet Groups and later to a much wider audience as the Internet became commonplace.

So what makes a good Female Muscle Growth story? As in all literature, it's up to the imagination of the author, but certain things must happen in order to be considered part of this genre. Here's a general breakdown:

The heroine. Sometimes the Antagonist, sometimes the Protagonist. She may be frail, abused, bullied. She may be evil, vindictive or just wants to be stronger. Whatever the case, our heroine is about to have a life altering experience.
Example: Tired of being pushed around, Lori wanted muscles, bigger and stronger than anyone. She spent all her free time working out and lifting heavy, but couldn't reach the strength she wished for.

The catalyst. Could it be a secret lab where mad scientists dream up ways to create superior humans? Whether the change is magical, scientific or extraterrestrial in nature, the catalyst causes the transformation from a normal woman into a muscular goddess.
Example: She was approached by a mysterious man that gave her a special potion. "Take just a sip and all your dreams will come true," he told her. He left and Lori quickly took a sip. She wanted it all decided to drink the whole bottle.

The transformation. This describes the muscular growth process in a descriptive and detailed manner. It continues until the author reaches the desired strength level. Some prefer the end result to be more realistic in size, while others go much, much larger. Fantasy is only limited by imagination.
Example: Lori immediately felt the changes as muscles began to pour into her. Her clothes tightened under the strain as she doubled in mass. Then tripled. Her shirt tore open revealing mountains of rock hard muscle growing beneath. Her clothes wouldn't last much longer. She continued getting bigger and stronger. Lori was closer to her dream, but this was just the beginning

The aftermath. Now that our heroine has a vastly superior body and strength, what does she do? A destructive rampage? Save the world? Some authors give the new Super Woman a Super Libido to match.
Example: I'll leave the rest to your imagination, but I wouldn't want to upset Lori at this point!

For those of you that follow Area Orion Shared Items (or Hot Feed), sorry but that service is no longer available. Google removed the feature Monday stating, "starting today we'll be turning off friending, following, shared items and comments in favor of similar Google+ functionality."

Sometimes progress isn't better (NetFlix) just attempts to force a new system. I'll give Google+ a try for now and hopefully find a way to share all the great female muscle and fitness news.

Website DamnLOL seemed to take notice of our muscle enhancement with Cinderella Landolt. Of course it's fake, but it seems the general public either has trouble telling the difference or just can't get past the mounds of muscley goodness. The comments are pretty humorous and there's even more on their Facebook page.

Tina Chandler has become one of the fastest rising professional bodybuilders of our day. After only competing for 3 years, she earned her pro card in 2007. She got on stage as a pro and has made a name for herself by qualifying for the Ms. Olympia contest in 2009 and now 2010 as well! Her most recent competition, July 17th 2010 in Tampa really got the attention of the fans and public in general by placing 2nd (only by one point) with the ‘best conditioning in the show’. Tina wants to become the next face of female bodybuilding and give the rest of the world a more positive impression of muscular women. Lift and Carry

The fantasy world of female muscle is no stranger to the odd and weird. Another such addition is Lift and Carry, a fetish where someone is aroused by being lifted and carried away, most often by a woman. She doesn't need to be a bodybuilder or powerlifter, just strong enough to carry the weight of a full grown man.

So what is the turn on with Lift and Carry? To many, it can be harmless fun or even part of foreplay. Some like the helpless feeling of domination by a powerful woman with no control. Others like the difference in size and enjoy the feeling of having the women struggle beneath their weight.

There are various types of lifts popular to L&C. Piggy-back rides, shoulder rides, over-the-shoulder carries, pony & donkey rides and Fireman's carry are just a few. These obviously depend on the strength of the woman and weight of the man to pull off successfully.

Some bodybuilders and strong women offer private Lift and Carry sessions as a way to supplement their income. Lift Goddess is one such professional, a Lift and Carry dominatrix who can lift a 250 lb man while wearing stilettos. She is a naturally strong athlete, former Las Vegas Showgirl and classically trained dancer. A one hour sessions runs $400 plus a $100 booking fee. She describes the experience as "You will be lifted born upon the wings of my superior strength. I may carry you in my arms like a child. And you will wonder… am I your Protector, or are you my prey?"

Many men are embarrassed to have this fetish, feeling the gender role reversal makes them appear weak. Fortunate for them, there are websites, videos, stories, forums and even porn for Lift and Carry where fans can live out there fantasies in private.

"Timothy & i have been together for almost 4 years & engaged for almost 3. i started planning our wedding in January. it was small, beautiful and FUN! we got married in one of the gardens at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. It was beautiful. Then the reception was at a really cool restaurant in the forum shops called Trevi. We only had 26 guests which was ideal for us. family & a few close friends. Made it more intimate which i enjoyed because i actually knew & talked to everyone that came to the wedding. we took the traditional photos after the ceremony but i wasn’t settling for that so i booked an hour at the neon museum which is a very cool place to take photos. it was well worth it. we got some killer shots.ahhh Vegas was good times but we were happy to get back home in Los Angeles. time to get back in the gym and back to business."
