My Friends Don’t Approve of the Women I’m Attracted To

QUESTION:
Reposted from PsychCentral

I’m kind of a shy guy. I’m 26 years old, and i’m attracted to huge massive and masculine female bodybuilders. All the people around me, judge me for this, and keep telling me that they are not the right choice, they would be the man in the relationship, and they would also be aggressive.

I met recently a very huge female bodybuilder, but the people around me judge me for this. Why am I attracted to such a woman? What should I do if it’s true, that they are aggressive?

ANSWER
by Dr. Marie Hartwell-Walker

There’s an old saying: “There’s no accounting for taste.” You are attracted to a particular physical type. So what? Other men are attracted to a different type. So what? There are many physical types: Short, tall. Large, small. Classically beautiful, beautiful in their own way. Isn’t it wonderful that beauty is in the eyes of a beholder, not limited to one type?

I don’t know why you find physically strong women attractive. It may be that someone more muscular helped you out in some way when you were young. It may be that, shy guy that you are, you feel safe with someone larger than yourself. Does it really matter?

What I see in your letter is that you are someone who isn’t capitulating to the stereotype of what a desirable woman should look like. You see beauty where your friends maybe do not. You know that aggression doesn’t come with body type. I’m sure you know men who are large who are gentle giants and men who are small who are aggressive little roosters. Aggression is an outcome of psychology, not physical type. The same is true of women.

People who judge you are narrow-minded and prejudiced. Please ignore them. Date who you wish. It’s a sorting process. If you find someone who is aggressive, you can drop her. But if you find a large female body builder who you love and who loves you back in ways that make you feel cherished and safe, thank your lucky stars and enjoy your relationship. Chances are your relationship will be at least as good, if not better, than the relationships of friends who are so shallow that they judge a woman according to stereotypes.

I wish you well.
Dr. Marie

Bodybuilding grandmother was 'shy and awkward' before weightlifting gave her confidence

By Jessica Rach For Mailonline: A grandmother-of-three has revealed how bodybuilding has given her a new lease of life - as well as a 200lb frame and seventeen inch biceps.

Robin Hillis

Correctional officer Robin Hillis, 48, from Ontario, Canada, loved sports at school and when she left high school in 1989, she joined a gym to maintain her fitness and soon fell in love with weightlifting.

Robin Hillis
Robin kept fit during and after her pregnancies
with daughters, Katey, 23, and Courtney, 21
Before taking up the sport Robin was shy, but bodybuilding gave her a new lease of life and in 1993 and weighing 135lbs, she competed in her first bodybuilding competition and placed second.

Robin kept in shape during and after her pregnancies with her daughters, Katey, 23, and Courtney, 21, who, along with Robin's grandchildren, Abel, three, Avianna, two, and Wynter, one, are her biggest supporters and encourage her to be the best she can be.

She now weighs 200lbs at 5ft 9in and sports 17in biceps, trains six days a week when prepping for a show and five days a week in off-season. Robin competes twice a year and says that bodybuilding has taught her self-belief.

Robin juggled motherhood and bodybuilding around her children as they grew up and they loved to watch her in competitions and cheer her on from the side lines.

The grandmother of three receives largely positive reactions to her impressive physique and she says that having children shouldn't make it harder to achieve such results.

In 2014, Robin earned her IFBB (International Federation of BodyBuilding & Fitness) pro card and she now competes in the professional league all over the world. Read More >>

Kortney Olson is crushing it: 'It's about them experiencing true female strength'

Kortney Olson

A wave of super strong female athletes are smashing sizing stereotypes, and changing the way other women work out

The Guardian: A woman in activewear crosses the street towards a car with blacked-out windows and no licence plates and says to the man inside, “Did you just catcall me?”

When he reluctantly confirms that he did, she says cheerfully, “I’m just going to tell you right now, a lot of women get intimidated when you do that … Most women are like, this motherfucker’s going to throw me in the back of the car, you know what I mean? I dress like this because it’s hot as fuck and I work out really hard. Pow. I’m strong and powerful and I’d fuck you up. But what I’m saying is, a lot of women get really intimidated by catcalling. You got me? So that’s what’s up. What’s your name?”

Kortney OlsonShe fist-bumps him. “Jason, I’m Kortney. It’s nice to meet you. Take care.”

Jason likely didn’t know he’d chosen Kortney Olson to hiss at. She’s the bodybuilder who smashes watermelons between her thighs and is an Australian women’s armwrestling champion. Her Instagram page is full of powerlifting feats – and the occasional candid video like her meeting with Jason.

Olson benchpresses men like Jason. Go into any gym these days and you’ll notice a migration of women from treadmills and cardio classes to the weights section. Back gains and abs are the new aesthetic, thanks in part to the rise of CrossFit, Bodypump and F45, and gym noticeboards are more concerned with strength competitions – heaviest leg press, squat etc – than scale measurements. Mega-ripped fitness models such as Gracyanne Barbosa have millions following their workouts on Instagram, and the US-founded STRONG Fitness Magazine launches in Australia this month, aimed at women.

“I love muscle. That’s just my thing,” says Olson, whose website delivers training programs that promise to add an inch to arms and legs: “Not so much on dudes – it’s not a prerequisite – but on women it’s outstanding.”

Olson was fascinated by the idea of having a six-pack from an early age, partly from idolising her older brother and partly, she says, because she was molested as a seven-year-old.

“From that point on, I created this image of myself being ripped in order to feel protected and worthy and safe,” she says. “I have found that most of the women that get into bodybuilding or strength training or powerlifting have had some kind of trauma.”  >>Read More

Bodybuilding Is Cashing in on All the Women Doing Squats at the Gym

Fitness Wellness Division

One of the biggest amateur competitions in the world will feature a "wellness division" that focuses on the lower body.

Fitness Wellness DivisionVice: The 2020 Arnold Amateur international championships, which will be held in Ohio this coming March, will now feature a “wellness” division alongside more established categories like bodybuilding, physique, fitness, figure, and bikini. Despite what the name might suggest, competitors will have to do a whole lot more than just pop a few SugarBearHair vitamins, manifest their intentions, and call it a day. They will be judged on their “body mass in the hips, glutes, and thigh areas,” according to NPC News Online. “The upper body is developed but not to the same degree as the lower body.” In other words, while bodybuilding is judged on overall muscle size in relation to other parts of the body, wellness will focus on the less extreme toning and conditioning of these lower body parts.
“We are excited to add wellness in 2020 as we believe it will grow into one of the sport’s most popular divisions in coming years,” said Arnold Amateur co-promoter Mike Davies, per Generation Iron. “Our goal for the Arnold Amateur has always been to encourage and provide an opportunity for as many athletes as possible, and this new division opens the [National Physique Committee] and [International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness] pro league to even more competitors.”

Davies is right to think that the wellness division will bring even more competitors to female bodybuilding. The bikini division did the same thing after the IFBB added it in 2012. “The bikini category is simply a more attainable physical endeavor,” Andrea Valdez of 3D Muscle Journey said in 2016. “[T]his entry level physique is seeing a lot more people coming into this division.”

At the same time, the addition of categories like bikini, wellness, and physique often prove detrimental to the longstanding bodybuilding division, which already has a difficult time attracting competitors given its rigorous demands—and the fact that it can be difficult for a female bodybuilder to navigate the world beyond competition in a body that goes against feminine gender norms.

“Despite the fact that, semantically and practically, women’s bodybuilding was intended to be a female version of the male sport, the category has not ever existed on such simple terms,” writes Sheena A. Hunter in Not Simply Women’s Bodybuilding: Gender and the Female Competition Categories. “Attempts to define and redefine the category have led to the creation of several other categories for women [like bikini, physique, and wellness], and further complicate the ways that female physique athletes experience gender in the sport of bodybuilding.”

Female Ex-Bodybuilder Embraces Glam Model Lifestyle

Nadine Kerastas

Commenting on her transformation, the bodybuilder-turned-model said that one should be in love with their life, because “at the end of the day, it’s you that has to live your life.”

Sputnik: A 25-year old former bodybuilder from Germany named Nadine Kerastas has undergone a spectacular transformation after she ditched her fitness regimen in order to become a glamour model.

Nadine KerastasAccording to the Daily Star, the one-time bodybuilder now makes a tidy profit via her social media presence and even managed to become a Playboy Playmate.

As Nadine explained to the newspaper, she started doing bodybuilding while dealing with an illness caused by a tick bite, when doctors advised her to join the gym in order to take her mind off the pain.

"I went to the gym and my body changed more and more and I felt better and better with it. My coach became aware of me and asked me if I would be interested in championships and I saw it as a chance to focus on other things instead of my illness," she said. "I started with it and was successful very quickly. I started on many competitions around the world and was five years an International IFBB Bikini Competitor. It was a hard time but I loved it. I was very disciplined and a control freak with my meals and my training."

However, she eventually grew tired of this lifestyle and ditched it in order to embrace her curves and, eventually, to take on a modelling career.

Nadine Kerastas
"After I decided to stop with competitions, I got a curvier body and I loved it, so I concentrated on my modelling career with a body with more curves but fit too and I went to Los Angeles for a photoshoot. That has since that my life changed completely," Nadine said. "Everybody loved me so much with my curves and my Instagram was like an explosion. Then I was published in big magazines and was Covergirl & Playmate for Playboy, then FHM etc."

Now, Nadine boasts a 1.3 million-strong Instagram audience and claims that she can earn over £2,000 (about $2,480) per shoot, noting that she “worked really hard” to achieve this and that it is a “full-time job” which requires one “to be active every day and create new ideas and content for your fans and interact with them.”

All in all, she said that she says that leaving all the fitness competition stuff in the past was the right choice, fully embracing her appearance and lifestyle.

"I love my abs and waist. I feel very happy with my look. I don’t miss my hard- trained body, I’m so in love with my curvy thick fit body now and that I can eat my ice cream sometimes. Be in love with your life and do what makes you happy. Because at the end of the day, it’s you that has to live your life," Nadine stated.

Nataliya Kuznetsova Could Be A Force If She Decides To Compete At 2020 Ms. Olympia

The resurgence of the 2020 Ms. Olympia competition is already receiving lots of attention!

Natalia Kuznetsova

FitnessVolt: During Olympia weekend it was announced that the Ms. Olympia competition would be coming back in 2020 and people are already talking about the possibilities for the Women’s Open division. Iris Kyle was the last Ms. Olympia champion of which she won a record ten titles.

Natalia KuznetsovaBut, the very last Ms. Olympia competition was back in 2014, so fast forward six years later and we’ll have a new field of competitors. And taking one look at Russian bodybuilder Nataliya Kuznetsova; it’s not hard to see that she would fit well in the Open division.

The 28-year-old certainly has good genetics, plus plenty of size and development to be a strong contender. She’s the heaviest known female pro bodybuilder (and probably the strongest, as she was an armlifting and bench press world champion in 2014 and 2015) so standing out isn’t an issue for her.

But, that doesn’t necessarily mean she’d compete at the 2020 Ms. Olympia competition. In fact, she apparently doesn’t intend too either. So, we’re only bringing up the possibility (which is always there).

The 2020 Ms. Olympia competition will be highly anticipated and although it’s way too early to know if Kuznetsova will decide to compete. But there’s no doubt she could be a serious contender in the Women’s Open division.

As mentioned before though, Nataliya Kuznetsova said she had no plans to compete at the Ms. Olympia competition but we’ll continue to follow her progress throughout the year because you just never know what could happen in professional bodybuilding!

Previewing the Biggest Night in Women’s Bodybuilding

Wings of strength bodybuilding
DIGITAL MUSCLE: A rousing battle of champions and a powerful display of muscle in motion comes to the Wild Horse Pass Hotel & Casino in Chandler, Arizona, when the most muscular females on the planet vie for the 2019 IFBB Wings of Strength Rising Phoenix World Championships on September 6-7. At stake is $100,000 in total prize money—$50,000 to the winner, plus all that goes with being hailed the best built woman bodybuilder in the world.

Helle Trevino
Helle Trevino Looks to Re-Claim Phoenix
The title is open, as Alina Popa, last year’s champ, will not defend her crown. Two former winners, “Marvelous” Margie Martin and Helle Trevino, are pumped and ready to take her place, but with 18 shapely superwomen set to compete, anyone can hit her peak and flex her way into the money.

Nobody knows the field better than Popa, who left her posing suit for a full-time job at Wings of Strength, the Jake Wood company that’s responsible for the spectacular revival of competitive women’s bodybuilding over the past five years. Alina now spends her days organizing bodybuilding events rather than prepping for them. So, who better to consult for an onstage view of the top contenders that will be trading biceps shots in Arizona.

Strong Woman: Hollywood Mogul Dany Garcia’s Pro Bodybuilding Career Goes Hand-In-Hand With Her Business Success

Dany Garcia
Dany Garcia attends the
"Skyscraper" New York premiere
at AMC Loews Lincoln Square
This year alone, Garcia has shepherded global box office hits like “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” and the groundbreaking television series “The Titan Games.” High-profile projects currently in the pipeline include “Jumanji: The Next Level,” “Jungle Cruise” and a remake of “Big Trouble In Little China.” Her “Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle,” released in 2017, is the highest-grossing film in Sony Pictures’ storied history.

But Garcia’s life doesn’t start and finish on red carpets and in Hollywood boardrooms. In 2014, she earned her designation as a professional bodybuilder. She has spent the last nine months training and preparing to compete in the Rising Phoenix Wings of Strength women's pro national qualifier, which runs on September 7. A win would earn her the opportunity to compete in the 2020 Olympia, which she calls “the Super Bowl of bodybuilding around the world.”

In the final weeks leading up to her competition, Garcia has been hyper-focused — eating seven carefully planned meals a day as she works to lower her body fat to performance level. Each day also includes three cardio workouts, a meticulous two-hour training session in the gym and multiple posing practice sessions along with massage, chiropractic adjustments, infrared saunas, stretching, meditation — and naps. She-Hulk: A Strong Casting Opportunity for Marvel

Ginger Kutschbach as She-Hulk
Ginger Kutschbach as She-Hulk
Who would you like to see cast as She-Hulk?
Bleeding Cool: Marvel has a chance to make a strong social statement when it comes to casting the live-action adaptation of the title character She-Hulk. They could easily CG the actor who ends up playing Jen Walters, the cousin of Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), but they should seriously consider casting a female bodybuilder as her alter-ego.

The difference between She-Hulk and the Hulk right away is that when Jen turns into She-Hulk, she still maintains her higher brain functions so she doesn’t just growl and rage like the Hulk originally did. As we found out in the comics and Avengers: Endgame, Banner found a way for him and the Hulk to co-exist as one to maintain Hulk’s form and strength with Banner’s intelligence, but it took time for him to figure it out.

Casting a female bodybuilder in the role would be the same approach that the 1978 Kenneth Johnson TV series with Bill Bixby playing David Bruce Banner and strongman Lou Ferrigno playing his counterpart.

While it’s true She-Hulk grows taller, wider and maintains her slender look, a social statement needs to be made given the issues of female body perception. Men tend to be accepted to be all shapes and sizes in media. Actors like Christian Bale are praised given their personality and dedication for a role. Bale’s been praised regardless if he had to lose an extreme amount of weight in The Machinist, bulked up for The Dark Knight, and praised for his performance for playing the rotund Dick Chaney in Vice. How many actresses get to do these kind of roles and given similar respect and praise?

If slender and muscular men can take up action roles, why does it only have to be just slender women who get to play these similar roles? The last muscular woman I can recall in any comic book-related project in the last decade I can recall was Olga Kurkulina, who played Mother Russia in Kick-Ass 2.

Women are largely competing in many of the same sports as men, yet in too many cases they aren’t taken as seriously, because many feel they don’t share the exact same physical attributes as men and as marketable. Despite all of this, women are still competing in strength-oriented sports like weightlifting, bodybuilding, strongwoman competitions, regardless of acceptance. You can find the She-Hulk star from those ranks.

Body perception issues affect both genders, but it tends to affect women in far greater numbers. In a study found in DoSomething.org, approximately 91% of women are unhappy with their bodies and resort to dieting to achieve their ideal body shape. Unfortunately, only 5% of women naturally possess the body type often portrayed by Americans in the media. We wouldn’t have as many social problems if men and women can accept the idea that a person like Olga Kurkulina can be afforded to have similar opportunities as a Dwayne Johnson or a Dave Bautista. Former MMA fighters of both genders are getting action roles so it’s not unrealistic beyond those like Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano to be put in the mainstream.

To truly be an equal society, we need to see ourselves every which way possible. To many, it’s a very hard pill to swallow, but that’s what media is for, to present whatever is possible. We need to find it within ourselves to accept who we are. It’s unrealistic to all share the same likes, but we all have a right to be happy how we are regardless of what the outside world thinks because most lack empathy never having lived your life. Those who truly care will support you because you are happy with who and what you are.

A role like She-Hulk can provide a positive image about a female bodybuilder. If people can accept her, then it’s one ripple of many that need to be made.

Elderly female bodybuilder stuns Australia's Got Talent

Janice Lorraine
DailyMail: Judges and audience alike had their notions of youth and vigour directly challenged on Australia's Got Talent on Monday night.

Indeed, elderly bodybuilder Janice Lorraine, 76, provided proof that age was just a number when she performed her body building routine to a rapt audience on the Channel Seven show.

Janice took to the stage in a shiny purple bikini and flexed her extraordinary muscles to Donna Summer's disco classic, Hot Stuff.

Judge Shane Jacobson, 49, could but look on with his mouth agape as Janice, from Queanbeyan in NSW, strutted about the stage.

What's even more extraordinary is that the elderly fitness fanatic only took up body building training in the past 20 years. 'I can't believe that your body is better than mine,' quipped AGT judge Manu Feildel, 45.

Female Bodybuilder allegedly raped by reigning Mr. Olympia

Shawn Rhoden
TMZ Sports: Bodybuilding superstar Shawn Rhoden -- the 2018 Mr. Olympia winner -- has been charged with 1st degree rape in Utah after allegedly sexually assaulting a female bodybuilder in 2018.

Cops in Salt Lake City tell TMZ Sports ... 44-year-old Rhoden -- who goes by Flexatron -- has not been arrested, but a warrant has been issued.

According to court docs, Rhoden's accuser claims she visited Rhoden in his hotel room in Oct. 2018. The unidentified woman told cops she viewed Rhoden as a mentor.

But, during the visit, the woman claims Rhoden forced himself on her -- and despite repeated pleas to stop, he refused. She claims he eventually stopped and let her leave the room.

Officials say the woman went to police and they collected evidence from her body that tested positive for Rhoden's DNA.

Rhoden has been hit with multiple criminal charges including felony rape, object rape and forcible sexual assault.

Make Room for Big-Bottomed Girls?

Bodybuilding has finally jumped the shark by starting a division for women with bikini-figure upper bodies and Kardashian-esque lower bodies.

booty
Will Brink for T-Nation: I've judged NPC shows on the regional level in New England for approximately twenty years, as well as a few Fitness America shows and a few other now defunct organizations.

Like most old-school purists, I didn't love the inclusion of new divisions such as bikini and I got all grumpy about dudes wearing long, flamboyant surfer shorts in the Men's Physique division.

Still, while I may have had my issues with the inclusion of those divisions (where's the muscle?!), I acknowledge that they were at least all based on the foundational concepts of physique sport: proportions, symmetry, and balance.

Not so with the new "Wellness" division that makes room for women who have thick legs and glutes but a bikini competitor's top half.

I Like Big Butts But This I'm Not so Sure of

Problematic name aside, the Wellness division is not actually new per se; it's just new to the US. It's popular in other parts of the world, and I even judged a show in Panama a few years ago that featured that division.

While the gals who compete in the Wellness division are stunningly attractive – especially for those who like the look of thicker legs and glutes – it often looks like someone glued together the upper and lower bodies from separate people. It allows these leg/glute heavy women to compete where they may not have done well in say, bikini, figure, or physique.

Sound like an unbalanced physique? It is! I've since labeled it the Thickness Division. These women don't represent a proportional, balanced physique, which is the foundational focus of physique sports and what's supposed to separate them from a basic beauty show or T&A extravaganza.

While I, as a man with healthy, functioning sex organs, find thick legs and glutes terribly attractive, my judge brain just says "nope."

When I voiced my objections, one NPC judge responded,

"That's just it. This division is not about symmetry and balance. This division was made for the girls who are more muscular on their lower half. Brazilians, Colombians, and Venezuelans are the perfect athletes for this division."

Translated, that means to hell with proportions and balance. These women can't fit into the other divisions because they don't have either the genetics and/or the drive to fit into them, so let's supply one they can compete in to be more inclusive.

Okay. How about a wide-waisted division for guys like me? Or a division for pancake-butt women who can't grow glutes at all, no matter how hard they try? Maybe even a Dad Bod division?

Well truth, as they say, is stranger than fiction because one show has instituted a Dad Bod division. I shit you not. Sure, it's all in good fun, but where does it stop? Of course, that show isn't sanctioned by any major organization, but let's say it was widely popular at that show and it caught on.

With our all-inclusive, everyone should get a medal for just participating, striving for mediocrity society, could the Dad Bod division end up in more shows? A few years ago I would have said no, hell no. Today? I'm really not so sure.

Angelica Enberg Might Be the Most Shredded Woman on Instagram

Angelica Enberg
Muscle & Fitness: Generally in the bodybuilding community, there's a tendency to look to the men for the title of “most shredded,” but anyone who really follows the sport knows that's far from the truth. Case in point: Angelica Enberg, a new face on the bodybuilding scene with a physique that has legendary potential. If you check out her Instagram, you can watch her punishing the weights, practicing her poses, or just hanging around, looking godly.

According to sources, Enberg placed third in her first competition at the Norway Open back in 2014. She moved to the U.S. in 2015, so there’s a solid chance that she will be taking off in the near future.

“There are different categories for example in my category there was the height level [muscle part in the height level]. I was in the level below 163 [Centimeters]. The other category is for people above 163 [Centimeters]. The other medal was [for] overall win in all height categories, ” Owala said.

Owala, however, was not the only Kenyan who participated in the competitions. She was accompanied by Wilson Munene, who represented Kenya in the male bodybuilders’ category.  Read more >>

Meet the "World's Strongest Mom"

Aleesha Young strong mother
Aleesha Young strong mother
Aol.com: Meet Aleesha Young, who has been a professional bodybuilder for half her life. But despite all the hard work that goes into preparing for competitions, her biggest accomplishment is being a wife and a mother. With biceps over 18 inches and quads over 28 inches, Young may be considered the World's Strongest Mom.

"I think people in the fitness world are surprised that I'm a mom because it's pretty rare at my level of female bodybuilding," Young explained to AOL Lifestyle.

"I knew that being a mom was a number one priority for me -- it had to happen for me," she continued. "I couldn't give the sport everything I needed to until I had my little girl." After Olivia was born, it took Young 10 months to get back into competitive shape.

And now, Olivia even helps out with her mom's fitness routine by adding weight to her mom's pushups and lunges. See more of Young's unconventional story in the video!

"In 2013, I was on my way to training for the championships in Greece. "A neighbour of mine, two years younger than me, he said, are you still doing that bodybuilding? "I said yes, and he said, it's about time you gave that up - you're well past your used by date. "I didn't want to waste my time putting those thoughts in my mind and dwelling on them. Vegan Bodybuilder Set To Become Parliament Heavyweight

Plant Based News: Gold-medal winning vegan bodybuilder and psychologist Emma Hurst has revealed plans to retire her bikini suit as she sets her sights on winning a seat in Australia's NSW Parliament representing the Animal Justice Party.

The 37-year-old athlete, who has followed a plant-based diet for 19 years, wants to change Australia's political climate and fix the country's history of animal cruelty.

Bodybuilder turned MP hopeful
After being told she couldn't compete on a bodybuilding stage because being vegan would be too disadvantageous, Hurst set out to prove her opponents wrong- and did so by taking out gold in three back-to-back competitions this year.

"I wanted to make a point that we can choose to live compassionately and still be competitive on stage," Hurst told Plant Based News.

"But I also proved to myself that I can achieve anything I put my mind to. Now I am focused on that seat in Parliament and I'm going to give it my all - for the animals."
